Filling in the inspection report

The checklist

22 items across engine, drivetrain, brakes and suspension, electrical, body and frame, documents and road test. For each: Pass, Attention (works but needs money soon, or cosmetic) or Fail (unsafe, not working, or does not match papers).

Notes

Write for a buyer, not for another mechanic. "Rear pads at 3mm, replace within 2,000 km" beats "pads low".

Photos

Take a photo of anything you mark attention or fail, plus the odometer, the VIN plate and the engine number.

Verdict

  • Passed: nothing marked fail, at most minor attention items.
  • Passed with notes: works, but there are attention items the buyer should budget for.
  • Failed: any fail, or chassis/engine numbers that do not match the papers.

Once submitted the report cannot be edited; contact the team if you made a mistake.
